So, this was my original submitted illustration for this week’s CREATIVE LOAFING cover story involving the battle for the heart of the GOP between Thom Tillis and Mark Harris. It was really a fun assignment to get to caricature a couple of political types. I definitely looked at those Jack Davis TIME covers more than once to draw inspiration.

The main image is ink and watercolor and I originally intended to have the people in the background a sight distracting pink color through digital sorcery. It was decided though that less is more and the folks in the background got universally bleached. You’ll notice I drew these guys with their eyes closed in the first version as well. I was really trying to emphasize their struggle for control of that sweet, sweet rope. Naturally, you’re gonna want your major contenders to head out on the streets with their eyes open so I drew up some peepers on a separate sheet and pasted them on for the print version. Hopefully they don’t look ridiculously unnatural.

Anyhow, probably no one cares about this dumb stuff but for the few suckers out there that might read this far, I hope you were minorly entertained.
